Introduction
Prestige Leisure UK Ltd, hereby referred to as PLUK is committed to protecting the human rights of all persons working directly or indirectly with us. We are committed to conducting all business relationships with social and environmental responsibility. PLUK ensures measures are in place so that we behave ethically, sustainably and with integrity, identifying and preventing human right risks, slavery, and human trafficking.
The following statement is published with Section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 which sets how PLUK approaches business and human rights and describes our commitments towards mitigating the risk of modern slavery in our supply chain.
Modern Slavery Statement
According to the United Nations' guiding principles on human rights, Modern Slavery is defined as 'one person depriving another of their liberty to exploit them for personal or commercial gain.'
Although historically we understand that slavery is abolished by law, Anti-Slavery International estimates that today, globally, over 40 million people are enslaved. Modern Slavery is taking place in all areas of everyday life, commercially and domestically. It commonly takes the form of forced labour, child labour, human trafficking, forced marriage and more.
Prestige Leisure will not tolerate the deprivation of one person's being by another in order to exploit them for personal or commercial gain. As a leading business within our industry employing over 100 people we ensure that we will always work to the highest professional standards and comply with all prevailing laws, legislation, rules, regulations and best practice relevant to every aspect of our global operations.
Our Commitment
Prestige Leisure UK Ltd fully recognises its responsibilities in tackling modern slavery. We are firmly committed to complying with the provisions of the Modern Slavery Act 2015. In doing so, we conduct on-going reviews of our internal practices regarding our own labour force and our external supply chains.
Furthermore, we will not enter business with any other organisation in the UK or abroad, which knowingly supports or is found to be involved in slavery, servitude and forced or compulsory labour.
Under the terms of the United Kingdom Modern Slavery Act 2015, Prestige Leisure is obliged to provide disclosures concerning our efforts to address the issue of slavery and human trafficking within our business and supply chains. We consider modern slavery encompasses:
• Human trafficking
• Forced work through mental or physical threat.
• Being owned or controlled by an employer through mental or physical abuse or threat of abuse.
• Being dehumanised, treated as a commodity, or being bought or sold as property.
• Being physically constrained or having restrictions placed on freedom of movement.
No labour provided to Prestige Leisure UK Ltd in the pursuance of its operation is obtained by slavery or human trafficking. We actively ensure that we exceed the minimum standards required under employment legislation in the UK, where our employees are located.
Our Supply Chains
Our distribution facility, spanning 200,000 square feet, houses an extensive inventory of 3,000 different styles sourced from more than 20 prominent clothing and accessory brands with production locations across the globe. These manufacturers are located not only in China, Europe, Pakistan, Vietnam, and Bangladesh but also in various other regions.
PLUK is in contact with thousands of people throughout our business operations. From manufacturers of our products, the people who deliver our products to you supply our utilities, manage, and design our websites to those that pick and pack your order.
We expect all our suppliers to act ethically and with integrity in all our business relationships and to implement and enforce effective systems and controls to ensure slavery and human trafficking is not taking place anywhere in our supply chain.
Potential Exposure
PLUK considers its main exposure to the risk of slavery and human trafficking to exist in countries of garment production because they potentially involve the provision of labour where protection against breaches of human rights may be limited.
Generally, at PLUK we see our exposure to slavery and human trafficking to be relatively low. Nevertheless, we are taking steps to ensure such practices do not occur in our business nor in the operations of any organisation that supplies goods or services to us.
The Steps We Take
To ensure slavery or human trafficking is not impacting our business, we rigorously examine our own internal organisation and supply chains. In addition, we conduct regular reviews of the controls imposed by our suppliers. Our suppliers' Modern Slavery policies where applicable will be readily available from our website by clicking on their brand page.
And to our knowledge, Prestige Leisure has not conducted business with any other organisation found to have been actively involved with modern slavery.
In accordance with section 54(4) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015, Prestige Leisure UK Ltd has taken the following steps to ensure that modern slavery is not taking place:
• Requirement of all our suppliers to act in accordance with the Modern Slavery Act 2015
• Audit and publish all our suppliers' policies and their coherence to the Modern Slavery Act 2015
• Measures in place to identify and assess the potential risks in PLUK supply chain.
• Undertake impact assessments of its services upon potential instances of slavery.
• Create an action plan to address the risk to modern slavery.
• Maintain a strong position when implementing measures to enforce a strict policy against modern slavery.
Training
Prestige Leisure UK Ltd provides training to all staff implementing our stance on modern slavery. The company's policy on Anti-Slavery and Human Trafficking is communicated across the organisation, the policy is included in the employee handbook issued to all staff and is included during training an induction to all new starters. The policies are also readily available, published and updated on the company website.
All senior management are given training and responsibility for ensuring that all of those that report to them are familiar with, understand and comply with the Anti-Slavery and Human Trafficking policy and are given annual refresher training.
Over the next year Prestige Leisure will:
• Ensure senior management is aware of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and inform them of the appropriate action to take if they suspect a case of slavery or human trafficking.
• Review all policies and procedures within the Company that impact on modern slavery and human trafficking and, where necessary, update existing policies or introduce new policies.
• Review the well-being activities and initiatives in place to support our employees' physical and mental wellbeing.
• Map out the supply chain, categorise the risk of all aspects of the supply chain and formulate an appropriate plan for all risks identified.
• Review the policies in place with our third party branded product suppliers.
Prestige Leisure UK Ltd (PLUK) will ensure all concerns regarding modern slavery will be addressed. PLUK will then undertake relevant action regarding our obligations.
PLUK has a grievance policy which is available.
