Heavyweight garments are having their moment in the industry right now, and we are here for it. Heavyweight refers to clothing made from dense fabric — typically 200gsm or above. Whether it's a t-shirt, sweatshirt, or hoodie, heavyweight styles offer a thicker, more structured feel that's increasingly in demand for premium decoration.

The Rise of Heavyweight Garments

Demand for heavyweight garments is on the rise, and for good reason. Decorators and their customers are looking for more than just style — they want lasting quality, a canvas that holds up to bold designs, and a modern, oversized fit that taps into current trends. Unlike lightweight t-shirts, heavyweight t-shirts provide a more premium and substantial fabric that offers endless customisation opportunities for both print and embroidery.

Why Heavyweight?

High quality and durable fabric

Heavyweight garments — especially those made from 100% cotton or polycotton blends — provide a sturdy, smooth surface that helps decoration pop. Jack & Jones Produkt hoodies are crafted from 80% organic cotton and 20% recycled polyester, giving them the strength to keep their shape and finish, even after repeated washing.

Ultimate customisation results

Why are heavyweight garments better for customisation? Well, a garment with any weight of 280gsm and above gives a garment decorator a substantial and smooth canvas to customise resulting in a higher quality and premium product. The density of heavyweight fabric reduces stretching and puckering, making it ideal for large embroidery designs. When using printing techniques, the thicker fabric absorbs ink better creating more vibrant and cleaner images.

Ideal choice for all industries

It’s oversized; boxy-fit heavyweight t-shirts and hoodies make the ideal staple in retail fashion. Perfect for streetwear and boutique business, you can provide your customers with luxury customised merchandise that will stand the test of time. With reinforced seams, heavyweight garments offer enhanced durability whilst maintaining a smart and professional look ideal for events staff, corporate away days, fitness instructors, to name a few.

Q&A: Behind the Collection

In celebration of this new launch, we asked Jack & Jones Sales Manager John Eriksson to give us his thoughts and inspirations behind this new collection and how it aligns with today's wholesale garment trends.

Which trends influenced the creation of the Urban Capsule, and how do you see these aligning with customisation demands?

All product developments are based on proven bestsellers and trends identified within the Jack & Jones universe. This means our decisions are data-driven—we observe market trends live in our stores and translate these highlights into the BLANKS world. While we adapt the “style,” we maintain the original fit and measurements, along with the colours, which are slightly modified to fit our 23-colour matrix for easier mix-and-match capabilities.

Within BLANKS, we have developed our own product specifications using stronger, more durable, and more sustainable compositions—specifically optimised for all applications. A notable retail trend we've observed is a significant increase in demand for heavier-weight products during autumn and winter re-orders compared to previous seasons. This trend directly influenced our response.

How does heavyweight fabric perform with print and embroidery?

As mentioned above, our unique composition and fabric density set the benchmark for final visual results, particularly in embroidery. With inch-level precision and exceptional durability, print and embroidery professionals have long praised our Classic capsule—and we’ve carried that same development approach into the Urban capsule.

The sweat styles in particular maintain a premium low-pile height cotton surface, ensuring an ultra-smooth, high-definition appearance for any print.

What is the best piece of marketing advice you would give customers to help sell these new styles?

Trend! Our styles are the result of data-driven decisions combined with real-time, in-store analysis—we know what’s trending. These designs aren’t developed in a vacuum; they’re shaped by live customer preferences and buying behaviours.

If you’re looking to stay on-trend and offer oversized, relaxed-fit options instead of the basic, cheaper market standards—Jack & Jones is your go-to source. We deliver on quality, trends, colour variety, and fit.

We recommend focusing your efforts on smaller or “bedroom” brands, youth-driven organisations, and teams or groups that want to present a stylish, chic identity. These styles are perfect for customers who want something that stands out—not just functional workwear.
