What is DTF?

What to pay attention to?

Fabric

When choosing a t-shirt, fabric is an important factor to consider as different fabrics have different characteristics. Ring-spun cotton provides a smooth surface for printing, ideal for application of vibrant and intricate designs. The ring-spun fabric is tightly woven cotton which creates a stronger, more breathable and smoother fabric, making this the ultimate DTF printing material.

Polyester can also work with DTF printing even though it's a synthetic fabric, it offers excellent durability and moisture-wicking properties. The man-made fabric creates a smooth printing surface which is one of the most important factors when printing with DTF. Polyester is also less likely to shrink as well, maintaining its shape and print wash after wash. One thing you must be mindful with with Polyester is how thin the fabric is as it likely to overheat causing melting fibres and gloss marks if too much heat is applied.

Colour

The colours of bulk blank t-shirts will alter the brightness of the print. Light coloured garments provide a clean blank canvas for DTF transfer where designs and logos appear bright and vibrant.

When working with dark garments, a white ink under base is recommended to achieve a bright and vibrant. It's important to keep in mind the effect the white layer might have on the hand feel of the t-shirt.

Weight

The t-shirts thickness will impact the DTF printability., feel and durability of the garment. Heavyweight t-shirts tend to provide a more premium feel for the customer and lighter t-shirts are more breathable, ideal for the warmer weather. In terms of printability results, the easiest fabric weight to print on is 180-200gsm t-shirts, as this weight achieves optimum printing results, long-lasting and comfort, ticking several boxes for the customer.

Design

DTF works just as well for intricate illustrations as it does for simple logos and emblems. It is a great choice for vibrant colours, durability and versatility across ring-spun cotton and polycotton blends. Its ability to reproduce fine details and bold designs consistently makes it a reliable option for a wide range of decoration projects.
